Both the American Geriatrics Society and British Geriatrics Society have updated their Clinical Practice Guideline: Prevention of Falls in Older Persons. A major change addresses the need for focused medication reviews. The AGS/BGS Guidelines now recommend a focused medication review for all older adults. This is a change from the previous guidelines that only recommended medication reduction or withdrawal for older adults receiving 4 or more medications.
Other key points addressing medication use include:
* "Withdrawal or minimization of psychoactive medications"
* "Withdrawal or minimization of other medications"
* "A reduction in the total number of medications or dose of individual medications should be pursued. All medications should be reviewed, and minimized or withdrawn."
